Taxing Us All: The Investor Case for Tax Transparency at Brookfield
May 18, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm PDT
Tax avoidance is a major contributor to rising inflation, which in turn contributes to an increased cost of living for us all. The OECD estimates revenue losses from profit shifting by corporations of US$100 – $240 billion annually. The PRI argues that tax avoidance is a key driver of global inequality. Headquartered in Toronto, Brookfield Corporation has the largest tax gap and the most identified tax haven subsidiaries in Canada according to a February 2023 report from Canadians for Tax Fairness.
The BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) has filed a shareholder proposal asking Brookfield to bring disclosures in line with companies who report using The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Tax Standard. The proposal goes to a vote on June 9.
The CCSN, BCGEU and CICTAR invite you to join this timely webinar as we lay out the investor case for tax transparency.
